Project: VAPA Academy
The performing arts industry is built on collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning. However, for many young theatre practitioners across Europe, accessing professional development opportunities and connecting with peers from different countries can be challenging.
The Virtual Academy for Performing Artists (VAPA), developed as part of a European Erasmus+ initiative, was created to bridge that gap through a shared online learning environment. The platform serves as a digital space where emerging theatre professionals can learn new skills, participate in workshops, exchange knowledge, and explore opportunities that support their career development in the performing arts sector.
Our team was responsible for the technical implementation of the platform, ensuring that the experience was accessible, intuitive, and reliable for users across multiple countries and devices.
The challenge we were given
The existing website functioned well visually, but it lacked many of the accessibility features required by modern web standards.
Some of the key challenges included:
- Missing accessibility features across the website
- Navigation barriers for keyboard and assistive technology users
- Content that wasn't fully optimized for screen readers
- Need to comply with WCAG 2.1 accessibility guidelines
- Preserve the existing WordPress theme and overall design
